Delay To Completion Of Kilcullen Traffic Lights Highlighted As Schools Set To Return

The traffic lights were originally installed in April

The completion of traffic lights on main street Kilcullen has been beset by delays as schools prepare to return later this week.

The traffic lights were originally installed in April, but are still covered up and not yet in operation.

Speaking exclusively to Kfm news, Fine Gael Councillor Tracey O' Dwyer ensured that the next step is the responsibility of ESB to connect the traffic lights, which will be followed by further actions from Traffic Solutions Ltd before ESB complete the process of the traffic light installation.

Cllr O' Dwyer also stressed that Kildare County Council had completed it's part of the process, which included sending a request to ESB, as well as the provision of a purchase order.

Local resident and parent Gareth Landy has criticised the delay, and has contacted a number of councillors about the situation.

ESB have responded when asked for a statement:

"ESB Networks liaises closely with local authorities and their contractors in relation to all connections, including for traffic lights.
However, we require completed applications and certifications from the local authority or their appointed electrical contractor before we can safely energise any connection.
Once we receive the correct certs and registrations, we prioritise making these connections live."
