A spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement to Kfm
The Department of Integration has told Kfm that it has received no offer of accommodation from the owner of the former Ulster Bank building on the Main Street in Newbridge.
Rumours had been circulating in the town that the building was being considered to accommodate international protection applicants or people fleeing Ukraine, however the Department says it is not currently examining the property for use.
A spokesperson told Kfm that "as with all properties, in the event an offer is made in the future in respect of this site it may be assessed for use, however no offer nor enquiry has been received on behalf of the owner at this time."
The spokesperson added that the Department "can only confirm use of a premises once a contract has been signed, and will, in the first instance, inform local public representatives and statutory agencies through its Community Engagement Team."
Recently, over 100 international protection applicants were moved into The Gables facility on the Athgarvan Road in Newbridge.
