The suspension results from ongoing difficulties in recruiting dietetic positions.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has announced the suspension of the Adult Primary Care Dietetic Service for three Community Health Networks (CHNs) due to staffing challenges.
Services in CHN 10 (East Kildare & Blessington), CHN 11 (South Kildare and West Wicklow), and CHN 12 (West and Central Kildare) will be halted.
The suspension results from ongoing difficulties in recruiting dietetic positions.
The primary care centres in Naas, Kill, Kilcullen, Blessington, Athy, Castledermot, Baltinglass, Dunlavin, Newbridge, Kildare, Rathangan, and Monasterevin are all impacted.
Referrals will no longer be accepted, and no waiting list will be maintained.
However, chronic disease dietetic services for Type 2 Diabetes, including structured education and one-on-one consultations, will continue through the chronic disease hub in Naas via Healthlink.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Newbridge GP Dr.Brendan O' Shea said older people and people considered overweight will be impacted by the suspension.
