Naas Roads Policing Unit encountered the motorist during a mandatory intoxicants checkpoing on the R148 in Maynooth late on Sunday night.
A road side drug test returned indications for cannabis.
The driver was detained and taken to Leixlip Garda Station.
Gardai say "Blood Specimen Taken and sent for analysis."
