
The funding will be an investment to help make rural towns more colourful, vibrant and attractive places.
Funding has been announced of €100,000 to fund streetscape improvements in Athy.
Under the Streetscape Enhancement Initiative, retailers and property owners will be provided with grants that they can use to improve the facades of their buildings, carry out artwork or install features such as street furniture or canopies.
Projects will include upgrades to building facades, artwork, murals, lighting, street furniture and canopies.
The funding will also be an investment to help make rural towns more colourful, vibrant and attractive places.
Kildare County Council is expected to begin advertising immediately, local businesses and retailers are encouraged to apply.
Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O’Loughlin commented : “This is a hugely positive announcement for the people of Athy and the surrounding areas.
“We have already seen unprecedented funding for Athy,- with 42 million for the Southern Distributor Road, over €220,000 for local sports clubs, more than €9 million for St Vicents Hospital.
"A further 6 million euros has been allocated to Shackleton Museum," she said
"€8million has been made available to fund the Athy to Laytown Barrow Blueway. Athy Model School Food and Drinks hub continues to progress in what is a €6 million euro project.
"A further €1 million euro allocation has been sanctioned for Emily Square and €1 million has been secured by K-Leisure and Athy Community Enterprise Centre.”
“Today’s announcement further reinforces the commitment at a national level to make towns such as Athy as attractive and welcoming as possible," she added.
