€12,000 has been allocated for gazebos and branding for a new food market to take place in Athy.
It is hoped to be up and running in the Autumn in Emily Square.
Athy Labour Councillors Aoife Breslin and Mark Leigh had been working on the idea.
They have also had meetings with the town manager about the new food market.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Cllr Breslin shared the news of the funding:
"I'm happy to say that funding has been got from the Department of Agriculture, Marine and Food in relation to securing gazebos and branding for the market."
"Now there's internal conversations going on between the department in KCC in relation to management and day-to-day issues of the market."
She described the market, which is expected to take place on Saturdays, as "absolutely fantastic".
She added that the Department want the money buying the gazebos to be spent by mid September.
Cllr Breslin added that the food market is hoped to be up and running in Autumn
