Construction is expected to begin in 2027
€20million has been announced for a second bridge in Newbridge.
Housing Minister has announced the funding for the bridge and 795m road length.
It will complete the Newbridge Southern Outer Orbital Relief Road.
In February, Kfm news reported that €200,000 had been allocated to advance design work and prepare construction contract documents for a second bridge in Newbridge, with the issue also being raised at a recent Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting.
Kildare representatives, Fianna Fáil Senator for Kildare South Fiona O' Loughlin and Agriculture Minister and Kildare South TD Martin Heydon have welcomed the news.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Senator O' Loughlin said that construction is hoped to begin in 2027, as the Department of Transport have been working on progressing the project to the tender stage, which we are "very close to".
She added that the bridge is needed for the many school students who need to use the crossing to access their various schools.
Minister Heydon described it as a "really significant investment".
