It comes as Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food, released their latest figures.

They have described the Kildare figures as "shocking".

The figures also outlined that €3million worth of food is wasted every day in Ireland, adding that food waste accounts for approximately 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

As the EPA reports that one third of all the food we buy ends up in the bin, the surplus food app is reminding the public that the country is on track to waste more than €1.2 billion on food this year.
