€3million has been secured for investment into the new community park in Sallins.

It follows a meeting between Higher Education Minister and Kildare North TD James Lawless, Sallins community group and Minister for Sport Charlie McConalogue.

According to Minister Lawless, the community park will be used for a variety of sports, as well as provision of a running track.

The site is located with the River Liffey on one side and the Grand Canal on the other.

Speaking exclusively to Kfm news, Minister Lawless said that it was a "long-awaited" development with land purchased 10 years ago.

"It's taken some to get the plans together and get agreement between Kildare County Council and the Department of Sport."

Minister Lawless added that it was "a really good day for Sallins".
