Maynooth Fire Station is to officially open today.

Kildare County Council will host the Minister for Housing, James Browne TD and the Minister for Further and Higher Education, and Kildare South TD, James Lawless, in the presence of the Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Councillor Carmel Kelly for the official opening of the Station.

Delivered at a cost of €4.4m, the station has been operational since October 2025, and includes a dedicated training space, a training tower, staff welfare facilities and many energy-saving features.

Energy-saving features include an air-to-water heating system, solar panels and high levels of insulation, as well as an underground rainwater collection tank for pump operator training.

Staff welfare facilities include individual personal changing spaces and single-occupancy shower areas.

Also opening is a social housing development, at Fitzgerald’s Close, Greenfields, Maynooth.

It provides 65 new homes, supported by more than €29 million in funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Social Housing Investment Programme – Accelerated Delivery Programme.

It includes a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom units including Age Friendly and universally designed homes.

The official opening of the Maynooth Fire Station took place 12.30pm, whilst the opening of the Fitzgerald's Close development began at 2pm.
