Perry’s previously operated from two locations - on Duke Street and Leinster Street - before consolidating operations on Leinster Street in recent years.
Perry’s Supermarket Athy will close at the end of December.
Labour Cllr Mark Leigh says the store has found it increasingly difficult to compete with three large supermarkets in Athy, despite having traded locally for decades.
Councillor Leigh said it was very disappointing to hear of the closure, describing Perry’s as a shop his own family, and many others, relied on down through the years.
He said the fact the business survived for so long alongside major retailers was a testament to the owners.
