A second SEN unit has been approved, as part of the project.
24 pre-fabs are shortly to move on to a Kildare primary school site, while refurbishment and extension works are underway.
The project is beginning at St Conleths and Marys School, Newbridge.
The existing building is being up-graded, and additional accommodation construction.
The Dept. of Education has also confirmed that it has approved a second SEN unit at the school, to cater for additional children with Special needs.
It is subject to a revision of planning permission by KCC.
Kildare Fianna Fáil Senator, Fiona O'Loughlin, says "“Every year it is a huge challenge for parents to find school places for children in Newbridge, and all the more difficult for parents of children with special needs who have a right to be educated in their own community. We are dealing with a legacy of inaction in relation to the provision of adequate places for children with special needs. This is really good news today-it has been a pleasure to deal with Bryan and the Board of Management to achieve this positive result.”
