Fatal Incident Leads to Heavy Fines For Business Owners In Athy

The incident involved a contractor who fell from an improvised working platform during roof repairs in March 2019, leading to his death.

The owner of an industrial premises in Athy has been fined €125,000 for breaches the Safety Act, resulting in the death of a worker.

A business operator was also fined €50,000.

Mark Cullen, Assistant Chief Executive of HSA, emphasised the preventable nature of the incident, stressing the importance of thorough risk assessments and safety measures, particularly for work at height.
