A local councillor has been calling for a feasibility study to be carried out for the provision of a public playground in Kildangan.
He cited the growing population as well as the high number of young people living in the area, with people having to travel to other areas to access amenities for children.
The motion had been raised previously, but that was when Kildangan was part of the Athy MD.
In response, Kildare County Council have said that while it won't be included in works for this year, but that it will be considered for 2027.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Independent Councillor for Kildare-Newbridge MD Pat Balfe highlighted the high number of young people in the area:
"The last population [statistics] show there was 736 people living in Kildangan, 200 of those were aged between the ages of 5 and 19, so there is definitely a need for a playground there."
Cllr Balfe also remarked that among local people advocating for the space, that a hand-written letter from a young person "really drove-home the need for the social infrastructure in a village that is growing".
He described the area as "expanding" while adding that people shouldn't have to leave their village to access a playground facility.
He added that he will continue to push for the playground to be added to works for 2027.
