A firefighter has been injured after a fire engine was targeted while responding to an emergency in Kildare town on Friday night.
Crews were attending a fire in a local housing estate when rocks and other objects were thrown at their vehicle, smashing a window.
One firefighter suffered cuts to their hand and arm from flying glass.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dermot Scully confirmed that the damaged fire engine will now have to be taken out of service for repairs.
Kildare Fire Service has condemned the incident, warning that attacks on emergency crews can delay their response to other incidents and put lives at risk.
The service is urging people across the county to act responsibly over the Halloween period, particularly around bonfires, fireworks and anti-social behaviour.
It has also reminded the public that emergency crews must be able to carry out their work without facing threats or violence.
