All over Ireland there is a variety of heritage sites, including ancient tombs, stone circles, early monasteries, castles, churches and graveyards.
Community groups in Kildare are being invited to apply for the Heritage Council’s Adopt a Monument scheme, which supports local efforts in preserving historical sites through expert guidance and resources.
The Castledermot Local History Group "adopted" Dunmanoge Church and Graveyard in 2022, working with conservation experts to protect its rich heritage dating back to an early monastic settlement founded by Finnian of Clonard on land granted by the King of Leinster..
Since 2016, 30 groups across Ireland have adopted monuments, including medieval churches and ring forts.
All over Ireland there is a variety of heritage sites, including ancient tombs, stone circles, early monasteries, castles, churches and graveyards, landed estates, mines, kilns, mills, traditional houses and battlefields
The scheme fosters heritage appreciation and community engagement.
