The Hawk Against the Dove, Addiction in Small Town Ireland, tells the story of Antoinette Foley, who lived in a tent near Athy’s Catholic Church in 2021 while battling addiction.
The project was initiated by James Mahon, who began documenting Foley’s situation through photography.
The book, which combines photographs and personal testimony, follows Foley’s efforts to regain stability - including support from social services, engagement with addiction recovery programmes, and eventual housing.
