Gardaí have outlined the steps you should take before interacting with people claiming to be Gardaí
Gardaí in Kildare are warning the public to be vigilant, as there has been a number of reports of people calling to houses impersonating Gardaí.
An Garda Siochana believe there may be many other people in Kildare who have been conned, but have not yet come forward.
If a person calls to your house claiming to be a Garda, you should;
- Ask them their name
- What Garda Station they are from
- Request their Garda identification number
On Tuesday 6th December, in the Sallins Wood Area of Naas, a man called to a house between 8.30am - 9am claiming to be a plain clothes Garda.
The culprit entered the house and told the occupant that he was investigating fraud in the area, the man handed over a sum of cash, which he was told would be "taken away for examination."
It's believe the suspect was on foot, and may have called to other houses in the area.
Gardaí in Naas are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of incident, to come forward with any information they have.
