Gardaí have said that a motorist driving at 175km/h in a 120km/h zone in Maynooth was "showing off to a passenger".
The Naas Roads Policing Unit detected the driver speeding on the M4 near Maynooth in recent days.
On social media, Gardaí have said that the driver now faces a charge of Dangerous Driving- and risks a disqualification from driving for up to 2 years, a fine of up to €5,000 and/or up to 6 months imprisonment.
They concluded by saying that such speeds can "devastating consequences"
"Speed limits are there to protect lives. Showing off behind the wheel isn't worth risking your life, your licence or someone else's family."
