The scheme will be similar to Operation Encompass, already in place in the UK, and a memo outlining the proposal is expected to go to Cabinet later this month.

Gardaí will soon be able to alert schools if a student has witnessed domestic abuse.

A new Government-led initiative will allow school staff to be informed so that the right supports can be put in place.
