Over €53 million has been invested in the broadband roll out in county Kildare
High-speed broadband a gamechanger for 14,657 premises in Kildare
More than 14,000 premises in Co. Kildare are included in the State’s Intervention Area, where NBI is delivering minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms and schools.
As the biggest investment in rural Ireland since rural electrification, the National Broadband Plan has delivered €53 million of Government investment in Co. Kildare.
To date, over 6,500 premises have already connected to the NBI network in the county.
Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine, Martin Heydon commented “It means more people can work remotely, students can study from home, farmers can access new technologies and businesses can reach customers around the world. Work on this national project began in 2020 and six years later, it is almost completed to every region within budget and on time."
He said "In Kildare, the benefits of high-speed broadband have been immense. A growing number of businesses can now produce, distribute and sell their goods and services more competitively. Farmers have benefitted through smart farming, which allows remote monitoring of livestock, lower operational costs and reduced impact on the environment."
Nationally, more than 480,000 homes, farms and businesses have now been passed which means a fibre broadband connection is available to order. Over 180,000 are connected so far as demand continues to accelerate.
