It is a small volunteer run initiative.

Period poverty is a serious issue, in terms of both women’s health and gender equality, that's according the charity Homeless Period Ireland.

Founder, Claire Hunt spoke to KFM about the struggles many women face in being able to afford sanitary pads, tampons and other period products.

Homeless Period Ireland is a small grassroots, volunteer run, unfunded, initiative.

It has put a huge amount of work into growing a small project into a renowned campaign and movement.

Hunt commented: " Period poverty is described at the inability to be able to purchase period products.

"We don't have tax on pads and tampons in Ireland, but we do have them on period cups and period pants.

"We all need to work together to end period stigma and shame," she said.

Women who find themselves victims of period poverty can check out the twitter page @homelessperiodIreland.

They can also sign up to the Lidl Plus App, and under the period poverty section they will be able to register for free sanitary products available at any Lidl store.
