HSE Confirms Staffing Issues At Athy Care Centre

It follows a Parliamentary Question from Labour and Kildare South TD Mark Wall

HSE have confirmed that Athy Primary Care Centre is currently experiencing staffing issues.

It also said that there are "no specific plans" to expand the services there.

It follows a Parliamentary Question from Labour and Kildare South TD Mark Wall, asking if the current services at the centre are fully staffed, and if there were plans to extend the services there.

HSE identified 21 services provided by the centre:

• Adult Occupational Therapy
• Paediatric Occupational Therapy
• Adult Physiotherapy
• Paediatric Physiotherapy
• Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy
• Adult Speech and Language Therapy
• Social Work Services
• Adult and Paediatric Dietetic Services
• Psychology Services
• Counselling in Primary Care Service (CIPC)
• Public Health Nursing Services
• Children's Disability Network Team (CDNT)
• Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
• Tusla Services
• Infection Prevention and Control Services
• Podiatry for Diabetes Services
• Chronic Disease Respiratory Services
• Midwifery Clinic
• Health and Wellbeing Smoking Cessation Service
• Community Healthcare Network GP Lead Service
• GP Practice and Community Pharmacy located onsite.

In a letter to Deputy Wall, the HSE said: 

"The HSE can confirm that a number of services based in Athy Primary Care Centre are currently experiencing staffing
challenges.

"While the majority of services continue to operate, some are operating below recommended staffing levels.

"The HSE continues to actively recruit to vacant posts where possible and to maximise available resources to maintain
service provision for the local population.

"At present, the HSE does not have any specific plans to extend the range of services available at Athy Primary Care
Centre beyond those currently provided.

"However, service provision is kept under ongoing review in line with population needs, service demands, available resources and national policy developments."
