Bigstone National School and Ballyroe Central National School both have just over 20 pupils
In a special feature on the Kildare Today programme, Kfm sat down with the Principals of the county's two smallest schools.
Bigstone National School, located on the Kildare/Carlow/Wicklow border was founded in 1896 and currently has 21 students.
Ballyroe Central National School, also known as Scoil Naomh Treasa, has 24 students in total and is located between Athy and Kilkea.
We spoke to the Principals of both schools; Aoife Power (Bigstone) and Avril Mann (Ballyroe) to learn all about their schools.
They outlined what a day looks like in a small school, the positives experienced by the children but also the challenges associated with running an educational facility in a rural area.
