According to The Irish Mirror, the Kildare native, 26, is being touted to play the part of Lucius – the son of Russell Crowe’s famous hero Maximus Decimus Meridius’ lover Lucilla.

Mescal is in negotiations for the coveted role which would bring his biggest pay cheque to date, according to US showbiz site Deadline.

Of course, he played the lead role in Normal People but also had a successful GAA career with both his home club Maynooth and the intercounty teams through underage levels.
