Irish rugby legend Rory Best is captaining a team on a powerful journey across Kildare today (15 September) as part of completing nine marathons in nine days.
The charity event for cancer began on 12 September and is featuring areas Derry, Belfast, Dublin, Kildare, Carlow, Cork, Limerick, Galway before finishing in Cong, Co. Mayo, covering over 235 miles throughout Ireland.
The funds raised are aimed at completing the building of Daisy Lodge in Cong, Co. Mayo, in addition to the purpose-built therapeutic centre located in Newcastle Co. Down for families across the island of Ireland affected by cancer.
The Kildare marathon began this morning at General Paints in Celbridge, before pit stops and eventually finishing up in Kildare Town:
Speaking to Kfm News, managing director of General Paints Kevin O' Connor says there's been "terrific support":
"We're getting terrific support along the route, terrific support from the people of Kildare."
Kevin also went on to praise Rory as an "inspiration" in the work he is doing for children with cancer.
"We've a great team, led by Rory Best, he's been a brand ambassador and he's just an inspiration."
When the marathon finishes in Kildare Town, it will be followed tomorrow by the Carlow marathon, eventually reaching it's conclusion in Mayo.
Daisy Lodge in Cong is hoped to open in January 2027, aimed at adding to the services offered by the Co. Down branch.
"A number of Kildare families have already benefited from Daisy Lodge, we've had them join our walk, it's so inspiring to have young children join us and their mums and dads, they're so grateful to Daisy Lodge for helping them in their time of need."
