All three suspects are being held at a Garda station in Westmeath.
Three men will appear in court after a burglary in County Westmeath yesterday evening.
Gardai responded to reports of a break in at a house in the Ballynacargy area at around 5pm where a quantity of jewellery was reported stolen.
The three men were spotted fleeing the scene in a vehicle a short time later and were chased by Gardai.
The men, all in their 20s, were later arrested and are due to appear before Athlone District Court tomorrow morning.
It's understood that the men abandoned their car in Enfield before trying to swim across the Blackwater River.
A Garda dog picked up the scent of one criminal. He was arrested shortly after 9pm.
The Garda Air Support Unit deployed a thermal imaging camera, leading to the discovery of the other two burglars hiding in a backyard.
