Kildare County Council and the Health and Safety Authority have inspected a building in Kilcock following a recent fire there.
A plan is currently being put together to ensure the site is safe, and to pursue the property owner.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael Councillor for Clane-Maynooth MD Tim Durkan says the site is "of huge concern":
"I've been sent photographs from residents in Kilcock, with young teenagers climbing on a four-storey building.
"It's a word of warning for people to keep away, because it's not safe, it's a closed building site, essentially. It's best to stay away from it."
Cllr Durkan added that "it's believed that a firework caused the fire".
KCC say that The Town Regeneration Team completed a vacancy and dereliction survey in Kilcock in June, and initiated contact with the relevant property owners.
It says a follow-up survey will take place in September/October to monitor progress, where no progress has been made and if properties meet the definition of derelict under the Derelict Sites Act, 1990, formal proceedings to place them onto the Derelict Sites Register will commence.
