Proposed pedestrianisation of one Sunday in September 2021
Kildare County have noted the request of one Green Party councillor, to pedestrianise the Main Street in Celbridge on one Sunday this September, “would need to be cognisant of the impact this would have on vehicular movement”.
On Friday’s meeting of the Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District, Cllr. Vanessa Liston put forward the motion, with the council adding statutory procedures for road closures will need to be taken. This would include a public consultation, estimated to take 8 weeks to complete.
KCC said if members of the MD wish to proceed with the proposal, an exact time & date for the temporary closure must be approved, along with detour routes for vehicles. This would all need to be approved by Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District office.
Signage would also be required if the temporary closure was to go ahead.
The council added an increase of littering may be expected with the increased footfall, and that it will not be possible to provide any increased bin collection service, once the road reopens on the Sunday in question, but services will resume the following Monday morning.
