Kildare Council Approves €3bn Data Centre Campus In Naas Despite Climate Concerns

Kildare County Council has approved plans for a €3 billion data centre campus in Naas, despite opposition from environmental groups over its projected emissions.

The six-centre project, led by Robert Moffett’s Herbata Ltd, will be built beside the M7 motorway and local business park.

According to reports by journalist Gordan Deegan, as part of the approval, developers must pay €8.3 million in contributions, one of 77 conditions attached.

Developers estimate the facility will emit 11.6 million tonnes of CO2 over 20 years, a figure they argue is not significant.

However, An Taisce, Friends of the Earth Ireland and Friends of the Irish Environment strongly opposed the plan, warning of serious climate impacts.
