Dairy sector continues to play a vital role in supporting Kildare’s rural economy
Farm families across County Kildare received €5.9 million in milk payments from Lakeland Dairies last year, underlining the importance of the dairy sector to the local rural economy.
The cross-border dairy co-operative announced its 2024 financial results this week, revealing strong performance after a difficult 2023.
In total, Lakeland Dairies paid out €998 million to 3,200 farm families across its 17-county catchment area.
The €5.9 million paid to Kildare suppliers reflects both the scale of local milk production and the central role of dairy farming in sustaining rural livelihoods and businesses throughout the county.
Commenting on the figures, Lakeland Dairies Chairperson Niall Matthews said:
"Dairying is the backbone of local economies across the island. In Kildare, as elsewhere, the milk cheque supports families, farms, and rural businesses. Our focus remains on delivering the best possible price for our farm families."
In 2024, Lakeland Dairies processed a record volume of milk solids and reported:
- Revenues of €1.75 billion
- Operating profit of €43.2 million
The co-op’s long-term strategy, 'Foundations for a Better Future', aims to enhance sustainability, efficiency, and value for its members.
