Kildare Has Just Nine Designated Community Gardaí

That is just 1.1 per cent of the 776 Community officers thorough out the country

Kildare has just 9 designated Community Gardaí.

That is just 1.1 per cent of the 776 Community officers that are deployed thorough-out the country.

The numbers have been released by Department of Justice following a Dail question by Kildare North TD Bernard Durkan.

Laois and Offaly have 13 Community Gardaí, so does Louth.

Meath have 8 and Westmeath 7.

Although with 222,000 residents, Kildare has a much higher population than surrounding counties, bar Dublin.
