The issue of St Corban's Boys National School has been raised in the Seanad
A Kildare senator has raised the issue of St Corban's Boys National School in the Seanad, as one junior infant class is without a teacher for the new school year.
However, the Department of Education said it will not be providing an extra teacher.
The school had submitted an appeal to the Primary Staffing Appeals Board, but the appeal was unsuccessful.
Independent Senator Aubrey McCarthy has asked for the Minister for Education revisit the issue before the new school year begins.
Senator McCarthy stressed the fact that these children are "taking their first step into education".
"These are 4 and 5-year-olds taking their first step into education, we cannot say that we're committed to giving every child the best possible start in life."
"Parents accepted these places in good faith, believing that the necessary teaching resources that were promised would follow."
