Her feast day is Imbolgc, February 1st
A Kildare Senator says St. Brgid's Day should be made a Bank Holiday.
Brigid is the patron saint of Kildare, but also co-patron saint of Ireland, along with St. Patrick.
Brigid was also a Celtic goddess, whose feast day is February 1st, the beginning of Celtic spring.
Kildare Fianna Fail Senator, Fiona O’Loughlin said “I was pleased to see the Taoiseach Micheal Martin wearing his St Brigids lapel pin”
“Whereas he could not confirm with certainty whether or not St Brigids day will be chosen as the next bank holiday, I was flattered that he acknowledged my tireless advocacy for St Brigids day to be chosen.”
“I have been absolutely consistent within the Fianna Fail Parliamentary Party and in any dealings with an Taoiseach, that the only viable option is for St Brigids day to be marked with a bank holiday.”
Fiona concluded “I will continue to advocate for this at a national level"
