A new online platform supported by KWWSPCA is aiming to improve dog adoption in Ireland by matching prospective owners with shelter dogs suited to their lifestyle.
A new initiative called K9 Compass is aiming to make it easier for people to find the right rescue dog while helping reduce the number of unsuccessful adoptions.
Founder Adam Murphy spoke to Kildare Today about the platform, which uses a lifestyle survey to recommend dog breeds suited to a potential owner's circumstances, including their activity levels and interests.
K9 Compass also brings together listings of dogs available for adoption, with KWWSPCA among the shelters already featured on the platform, along with organisations in Laois, Wicklow, and Wexford.
Speaking on KFM, Murphy said the idea developed after seeing the number of dogs being surrendered to shelters, sometimes because owners had chosen breeds that did not suit their lifestyles.
The long-term aim is to create a single platform where people across Ireland can browse shelter dogs and make more informed decisions before adopting.
