Call comes as Social Democrats begin National Conference

Kildare North TD Catherine Murphy says the government must act to help struggling families to put food on the table.

The Social Democrats are calling for a emergency budget as their National Conference gets underway this weekend.

The party says the measure is needed to provide some relief to those struggling with the cost of living crisis.

The price of housing and Sláintecare reforms will also be central to the weekend discussions.

Deputy Murphy is the party's co-leader.
