It follows an assault on Deputy Michael Healy Rae in his car last week
A number of TDs and Ministers have installed cameras and panic buttons in their offices amid fears of harassment.
It follows advice from Gardaí, after Independent TD Michael Healy Rae was allegedly assaulted in his car while travelling through an area of Dublin last week.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North Naoise O' Cearúil says he's not going to be intimidated by people in light of recent harassment worries:
"I'm not going to let other people intimidate me out of office, I've been democratically elected as have my colleagues across the political spectrum to represent the interests of people in Kildare and indeed nationally."
Deputy O' Cearúil alluded to instances of being "locked in my car" as well people having "barged into clinics", forcing him to change clinics to an appointment only system.
"People have, in the past, tried to just barge in an attempt to takeover meetings or clinics, these are the considerations that we have to make.
"People feel like they can say what they want online, I've approached people who I know have said things online that I know personally, and I always say 'you have my number, why not raise the particular issue with me'."
"I think people just need to reflect on their online commentary, how they go about protesting, how they go about bringing issues up with politicians, in the end of the day 99.9 per cent of politicians are there to help their community, we can't give way to extreme voices on the political spectrum."
While O' Cearúil does believe the accessible nature of politicians is a positive thing, he also believes that they have to "be conscious of safety" for themselves and their family.
