Opposition parties claim the Government approach has led to a rise in homelessness
There are people in Kildare who are working, paying taxes, paying PRSI, and paying USC, and they're delighted that the they're not living on the street, according to Sinn Féin TD Réada Cronin.
Speaking on Kildare Today Deputy Cronin said there are "people who get up early in the morning" to go to work, and who are, in some cases, living in homeless accommodation.
The Kildare North TD has criticised the Government's approach to housing delivery following the latest figures of 12, 441 people homeless in the state.
Junior Minister, Kildare South TD Martin Heydon accused Sinn Féin of a housing ideology, which he claimed is "flawed" and "very dangerous."
Fine Gael's Deputy Heydon claimed Sinn Féin only want public investment in housing, and he claimed they were against private investment in housing, which Deputy Cronin denied.
Kildare North TD James Lawless, when pressed, refused to call the current homeless figures a disaster, he insisted it was "not good."
The Fianna Fáil TD said ideally the Government wants to get to "zero homelessness."
