To assaults have occurred in the Kildare Town playground in recent weeks
Schools across Kildare Town came together yesterday to highlight the importance of kindness after two reported assaults took place in the area in recent weeks.
It is understood that a 14 year-old suffered a broken arm following an assault that was recorded and shared shortly after 6.30pm on May 8th.
The male juvenile, aged in his teens, attended Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise for treatment of injuries.
Two days later, reports of a separate assault also occurred involving a young girl, who was attacked at the same playground at approximately 5:45pm.
Investigations are said to be ongoing.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fianna Fáil Councillor for Kildare-Newbridge Suzanne Doyle desrcibed the incidents as "very sobering" and that people were very "fearful and anxious" in the aftermath of the assaults.
She also emphasised the importance of staying aware and being vigilant of such incidents in the community.
Kfm reporter Tara Flanagan spoke to people at the gathering yesterday.
Vice principal at St Brigids Kildare Town Siobhán Hennelly said that the they are "very lucky that we have very little discipline problems in the school".
"This was an unfortunate incident but we don't see much of that in the school."
Also speaking to Kfm news was principal of Kildare Town Community School John Hayes who insisted that "99% of the kids in Kildare Town are absolutely fantastic".
