The seasonally adjusted live register total for September was 169,300 people - up 100 from August.
The figures from the Central Statistics Office show the counties that recorded the largest percentage increases were Dublin, up at 9.6%, and Kildare, up by 5.6%.
The largest decreases were in Galway (-6.1%) and Monaghan (-5.7%).
25 to 34 year olds made up the largest number of those on the live register last month, at 39,838 people or 24.1% of the total.
