It comes as the annual Irish Business Against Litter survey has been revealed.

Leixlip and Newbridge both placed inside the top 40 cleanest cities and towns in Ireland.

It comes as the annual Irish Business Against Litter survey has been revealed.

Leixlip finished in 3rd place, while Newbridge finished in 11th place.

Overall, Sligo again topped the IBAL ranking as Monaghan came in 2nd place, with Limerick City Centre the only area branded ‘littered’.

In Leixlip, eight out of the ten sites got the top litter grade.

These included the approach roads, the residential area of Riverdale (there was a complete absence of litter here), the Main Street and Arthur Guiness Car Park.

By far the most heavily littered site in Leixlip was the Bring Centre at Lidl.

According to the survey, levels were such that it was verging on becoming a litter blackspot.

Seven of the ten sites got the top litter grade in Newbridge.

These included the residential area of College Green, The Main Street (exceptionally clean) and Liffey Linear Park.

By far the most heavily littered site in Newbridge was the Bring Facility at Tesco – it had been heavily dumped upon.

No town or city occupied the “seriously littered” or “litter blackspot” categories at the foot of the IBAL table.

Overall litter levels were on a par with last year, with 27 towns deemed clean.

Plastic bottle and can litter was found in 19% and 22% respectively of sites surveyed - the highest levels since the Deposit Return Scheme was introduced.

The study also revealed a significant increase in cigarette butt litter compared to 2025.
