It comes as Organ Donor Awareness Week 2026 in Ireland runs from May 16th to 23rd
A Leixlip woman who donated a kidney to her son has been raising awareness around organ donation.
It comes as Organ Donor Awareness Week runs from May 16th to 23rd.
As part of the launch, Emer Casey, a Leixlip resident and parent who donated her kidney to her adult son Daire spoke to Kildare Today.
Ms Casey spoke of Daire's athletic lifestyle of playing sport to suddenly falling ill and requiring hospital visits and extensive dialysis.
She also said that the decision to donate an organ to her son "was tangled up in so much emotion" adding that Daire had concerns about his mam donating her kidney.
"For me personally, I could centre myself and say 'this is necessary and if I needed it, one of the others would do it for me'."
