Deputy James Lawless said there is a massive difference between people being annoyed and frustrated and making threats on the homes of politicians.

People can be annoyed but let's not endorse "blowing people to smithereens".

Kildare North TD James Lawless made that comment following a hoax bomb threat at the Taoiseach's home.

Speaking on Kildare Today, Deputy Lawless said there is a massive difference between people being annoyed and frustrated and making threats on the homes of politicians.

He said we run the risk of our relationship with politicians becoming Americanised.

A phone call, using a code-word, claimed a device had been planted at the Taoiseach's home in Wicklow.

His wife and two children were at home when the threat was made.
