The proposed supermarket will be built on a site at Parkmore House in Weaver’s Square.
An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for a Lidl supermarket in Baltinglass, reversing a previous decision by Wicklow County Council to refuse the development.
The proposed supermarket will be built on a site at Parkmore House in Weaver’s Square.
Plans were originally lodged in February 2023.
In 2023, Wicklow County Council refused the application, citing concerns over the suitability of the proposed development within the town centre zoning category (‘TC – Town Centre’).
Planners raised issues related to the scale of the single-storey design, the underutilisation of town-centre-zoned land, and the proposed car parking layout.
In their original assessment, the council concluded that the development did not represent a compact or high-quality use of the site and was inconsistent with the objectives of the Wicklow County Development Plan 2022–2028.
Following the council’s decision, Lidl appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
That appeal has now been upheld.
Local FG Cllr Edward Timmins said it is "welcome news and will give consumers further choices for shopping".
