Local Democracy In Focus: Minister O'Donnell Launches Initiative To Illuminate Councils And Councillors' Roles

The country will go to the polls in June for this year's local elections, alongside the European Parliament elections.

A public information campaign around the role of local council and councillors has been launched.

It gives an overview of the different responsibilities of local government and the key role played by councillors in shaping communities.

Local Government Minister Kieran O'Donnell hopes it'll encourage "greater awareness among the general public" of the crucial role they play.
