The proposed park aims to meet the recreational needs of local communities, preserve the biodiversity and natural beauty of the river corridor, and create connections to amenities in neighboring South Dublin and Fingal.
Plans to explore the development of a Liffey Valley Park, which would stretch approximately 6.35km from St. Catherine’s Park in Leixlip to Celbridge Bridge, are being explored by Kildare County Council.
If realised, this would mark the first phase of an envisioned larger park system along the River Liffey, offering public access to a “necklace” of green spaces within the county.

A Feasibility Study is already in progress and is expected to be completed in 2025.
The study will evaluate the viability and potential for delivering the park, laying the groundwork for future development.
As part of the project, the council is inviting public input through an online survey.
Public participation is a vital element of the planning process, and Kildare County Council is encouraging as many people as possible to share their views.
