Enterprise Minister Peter Burke is engaging with Intel today, following reports it is to significantly reduce its workforce.
Bloomberg News say the company is set to announce a 20 percent cut to its global workforce.
Intel employs nearly five thousand people at its operation in Leixlip.

Social Democrats Cllr Councillor Nuala Killeen says redundancies would have a huge impact on the community.
She’s calling for Enterprise Minister Peter Burke to provide clarity on his engagement with Intel.
Kildare North TD James Lawless said Intel's Leixlip base was "well placed" to deal any changes at the company.
He said talk of jobs cuts at the moment are "rumour and speculation".
In a statement released this afternoon, Minister Peter Burke said he will "continue to engage with Intel".
"Ireland continues to play an important role in Intel's plans as the European hub for manufacturing semiconductors, and we don’t see speculation around headcount reduction changing this. We continue to partner with Intel in areas of research and innovation and our upcoming National Semiconductor Strategy launch will further enhance this important sector."
He added: "I appreciate speculation is very difficult for staff in Leixlip, and we will continue our engagement with management over the coming weeks and months."
