The proposed cameras - three in total - would monitor the bring bank centre in the pay-parking area beside retail units on Edmund Rice Square, adjacent to the River Barrow.

Locals are being invited to give feedback on plans to install CCTV at Edmund Rice Square in Athy.

The consultation runs until September 26th.

The proposed cameras - three in total - would monitor the bring bank centre in the pay-parking area beside retail units on Edmund Rice Square, adjacent to the River Barrow.

The Council says illegal dumping at the 24-hour glass recycling facility has become more frequent, creating eyesores, blocking access for recyclers, and posing a potential risk to wildlife in this Special Area of Conservation.

Under the Circular Economy and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2022, local authorities may use CCTV to prevent, detect and prosecute litter offences.

Signage will warn the public if cameras are installed, initially for three months.

Submissions on the proposal can be made online through Kildare County Council’s consultation portal before the September 26th deadline.
