It happened in Kildoon on Monday night.
A man has been arrested this morning in connection with a "serious assault in which a car was used to run over an individual, on a number of occasions", in the vicinity of Martin's Pub, Kildoon
Gardai were called to the area at around 11pm on that night.
They found 39 year old man with "very, very serious" injuries, including a fractured hip, leg, broken teeth, fractured ribs and facial injuries.
He is being treated in hospital.
Gardai conducted an examination of the scene yesterday, and have set up an incident room.
A man has been arrested in connection with the inquiry this morning, and is being questioned at Kildare Town Garda Station.
He may be held there for 24 hours.
