The incident happened at around 2.50pm on Monday afternoon, on Cutlery Road, close to the Whitewater Shopping Centre - a busy area with people coming and going.
A man was left shaken following a brazen daytime assault and attempted robbery in Newbridge.

Gardaí say the man was confronted by two males, who demanded his jacket.
When he refused, he was assaulted, and the attackers tried to steal his phone.
Despite being injured, the victim clung onto the phone until a member of the public intervened, causing the suspects to flee.
The two males are described as having local accents, both wearing dark tracksuits, with their faces covered.
One is around six foot, the other slightly smaller.
Gardaí say this was a frightening attack, carried out in broad daylight, and are appealing to anyone who was in the Cutlery Road area at the time to come forward.
